Frequently asked questions

Does every Excel worksheet become its own CSV?

Yes. Each readable XLSX worksheet is exported separately. If there are several sheets, they can be downloaded together as one ZIP created locally.

Are Excel formulas recalculated?

No. UseTool reads the result stored in the XLSX file; it does not run Excel's formula engine. Open and save the workbook in Excel first if calculated values are out of date.

Does the original layout stay intact?

Text and CSV extraction does not reproduce the Office layout. Embedded pictures and media are copied byte for byte without re-encoding.

Why are only DOCX, XLSX and PPTX supported?

These modern Office files use the documented OOXML package format. Legacy DOC, XLS and PPT binaries and macro-enabled files are deliberately not processed.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The whole job runs inside your browser, on your own device. Your file never travels over the network, so there is nothing for us to store, read or lose.

Does it cost anything?

No. There is no account, no trial and no upload limit tied to a plan. A short ad may appear before a download and helps keep the tools available.

Does this work on a phone?

Yes, on Android and on iPhone — the browser does the work, so nothing needs installing. What exactly is possible depends on the codecs your browser and device support; the tool checks that and says so before you start.

How large can a file be?

The limit is your device's memory rather than a rule we set. Very large files work on a computer and can fail on an older phone. Video compression is the one exception: it stops at 2 GB, and that is written next to the file picker.
