Frequently asked questions
Does the GIF stay animated?
Yes. Every frame is decoded, protected and written back, and the frame delays and the loop count are carried over, so the GIF plays exactly as before. Colours are re-quantised to the 256 a GIF frame allows, and transparency is preserved.
Is this better than editing the frames by hand?
For a moving face, yes. Each face is followed from frame to frame, so a head that turns away or is briefly hidden stays covered rather than reappearing for a few frames - which is exactly what happens when frames are treated one by one.
Are camera details like location removed?
Yes. The picture is redrawn from its pixels, so EXIF data — camera model, date and GPS position — does not survive the trip. That is a side effect worth knowing before you share a photo.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The whole job runs inside your browser, on your own device. Your file never travels over the network, so there is nothing for us to store, read or lose.
Does it cost anything?
No. There is no account, no trial and no upload limit tied to a plan. A short ad may appear before a download and helps keep the tools available.
Does this work on a phone?
Yes, on Android and on iPhone — the browser does the work, so nothing needs installing. What exactly is possible depends on the codecs your browser and device support; the tool checks that and says so before you start.
How large can a file be?
The limit is your device's memory rather than a rule we set. Very large files work on a computer and can fail on an older phone. Video compression is the one exception: it stops at 2 GB, and that is written next to the file picker.
