How is an aspect ratio simplified?
Width and height are divided by their greatest common divisor. Decimal dimensions are scaled first so the same rule remains exact.
Does changing the ratio crop an image?
It can. Resizing both dimensions independently stretches the image; preserving the image and changing its ratio requires cropping or padding.
